Visit Information

First Visit

At McCann Pediatric Dentistry, we’re here to help your child feel comfortable, safe, and even excited about visiting the dentist! We follow recommendations from leading dental and pediatric associations, encouraging families to establish a “dental home” by age one. Early visits help build healthy habits and prevent dental problems down the road.

Ages 0-3 (Knee-to-Knee Exams)

  • Your child sits in your lap while we gently examine their teeth.

  • We focus on educating you about brushing, diet, and oral development.

  • Quick, simple, and designed to build trust.

Ages 3-4 (Transition Room Visits)

  • Your child is invited to sit in the dental chair, with you by their side.

  • We introduce cleanings and let them get used to the environment.

  • Great for boosting confidence and creating a positive routine.

Ages 4+ (“Big Kid” Room)

  • Once your child is ready, we guide them through their visit independently.

  • You’ll wait in the reception area while our friendly team walks them through their cleaning and exam.

  • Most kids respond well to this step and enjoy the independence!

OUR APPROACH

  • We build relationships slowly and respectfully.

  • Our team uses kid-friendly language to explain what’s happening.

  • If your child is nervous or shows some anxiety — it’s completely normal! We’re trained to help children feel at ease, every step of the way.

OUR GOAL

We want your child to look forward to their dental visits. With gentle care, encouragement, and a focus on trust, we’re here to support your family’s oral health journey from the very first tooth.
